Do unto others as though you were the others

Jesus said, "Do to others as you would have them do to you" (Luke 6:31). This is commonly known as the golden rule. What does it mean?

Does the following example sound like the golden rule? Picture a businessman taking his best employees to a scenic site overlooking a beautiful valley. He tells them to just imagine that valley with a magnificent house, an attractive pool in the back and a tremendous tennis court to the side. He tells them, "I appreciate what you've done all these years, and if you continue your devotion and hard work, I just want you to know this beautiful scene before you will someday, yes someday, it will all be mine."

Some people relate to others without the slightest thought about them. “A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions” (Proverbs 18:2, cf. Pr 15:28).Some people don't try to see the viewpoint of the other person. They're like the man who angrily jumped out of his car after a collision with another car and said, "Why don't you people watch where you're driving? You make the fourth car I've hit today!" The golden rule means that even if you are misunderstanding me, I will try to understand you. And even if you are trying to deceive me, I am going to be reliable and trustworthy. Have a golden day! - Ken Ellis
