Subject: second quarter report and account
Dear Elders,
Greeting in the name of Jesus Christ to you all as well as the entire
church. I thank God for giving me another opportunity to communicate with
you by sending in this report for the months of April to June,2003.
Worship: The church at Afaha Itiat whom I am serving now permently continues
to benefit from my services of teaching and preching. The church maintains
and average attendance of 150 members including children against 90 members
in January 2003 when I stepped in to help. The collection had also increased
from N500 to Nl800.00. I preach to church of christ at Ikot Ebom who invited
me on June 1 2003.
Evangelism: This on going programme is progressing a lot. Most backslidders
have now been back to the servicse due to visit to their homes. Under
this programme, conselling services to some of their prblems are profered.
Midweek Classes: This on going programme too continues weekly thogu attendance
is poor due partly to rains, as we are under raining season now and weeding
in the farms mostly by women and children. Poor attendence do occur on
market days since members will be going to sell and buy. Morning prayer
is being conducted from Monday to Saturday during the hours of 5 a.m to
5.45 am.
Baptism: One baptism was recorded during the period.
Outreach Ministry: I was able to effect and outreach ministry to a neighbour
church at Ididep Usuk. This church had been without a preacher thus causing
backslidding factions etc. After being with them for two sundays and fridays
during the month of April,2003, some of the backslidders had comeback
and the factions wipe out. In order to help those coming back to cement
their faith, a preacher who just came out of preaching school was asked
to be with them. This preacher is supported from the support given me
by you. At least, one third of the amount realised is given to him. His
name is Etim Effiong Bassey from predominantly catholic community. I will
send his report to you in the furture since he is benefitting also from
your help to me. Under this programme, I intend to extend it to teenagers.
Our teenagers are under more pressure than ever to get involved with drugs,
pre-marital sex, alcohol, occult as well as false religions and the like.
So, a sure way to raise a Godly generation is to build their character
and personality around Christ the solid Rock during the adolescent years.
The teens from Afaha Itiat and Ididep Usuk /congregations are going to
be used in starting the Teenagers Outreach Ministry.
Finance (Account): The spending of the suppkort may not be fixed every
quarter as charges for good and services have gone up 100% in the country
due to high inflation, especially now that fuel prices have been almost
doubled. The amount received from the bank was N73,000.00 (Seventy Three
Thousand Naira),. My share was N36,500.00 (Thirty Six Thousand Five Hundred
Naira) and was spent as follows:
1. Personal use: N22,000.00 (Twenty Two Thousand Naira), for cloths medication,
feeding and other needs of the family.
2. Surpporting the preacher Bro. Bassey N4,500 (Four Thousand Five Hundred
Naira)
3. Transportation N8,000.00 (Eight Thousand Naira) family needs, Gospelmeeting,
midweek activities, visitations, repairing vechle and fueling.
4. Benevoleuce: Nl,500 (One Thousand Five Hundred Naira) while visiting
backslidders a need to help financially may arise and needly ones asking
for help.
Proposal: A part from the teenagers outreach ministry partly on ground,
I intend to take four ministers to different places to preach and conduct
open air lectures as well as strengthening those without preachers. God
helping, this may take off by July 20,2003. The time will be after normal
worship servicses being over. Pray for the proposed programmes to materialise
succsessfuly in the Lord.
Warmest greeting.
Akpan Essien.
